Now nearing the end of its sixth production cycle, the Legacy-the formerly compact and now-midsize four-door sedan from Japanese automaker Subaru-gets a pair of changes for the 2019 model year. Formerly restricted to the upper-level trims, EyeSight®-a driver-assistance suite of technologies that includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane keep assist, and lane departure and sway warning-is now standard across the board. And a 6.5-inch multimedia touchscreen is extended to the base Legacy model.

What are the Legacy Trims & Features for 2019?

The 2019 Subaru Legacy is split into four trims: the base-level model, the Premium, the Sport, and the Limited. As a midsize sedan, the Legacy can seat up to five people, with its passenger volume measured at 104.6 cubic feet. The trunk yields a cargo space of 15 cubic feet. Typically, the Legacy's front row consists of a 6-way manually adjustable driver's seat and a 4-way manually adjustable passenger seat. However, on the Premium, the front seats are heated, with the driver's side upgraded to 10-way power adjustability with power lumbar control. Also standard on the Premium is a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Sport and Limited trims have leather seat surfaces, a 2-position memory system for the driver's seat, 4-way power adjustability on the front passenger seat, and heated rear seats.

In addition to the aforementioned 6.5-inch display, standard comfort and convenience features on the 2019 Legacy include electronic cruise control, Bluetooth® hands-free phone operation and audio streaming, dual front and rear USB ports, an auxiliary audio jack, four-speaker audio, AM/FM radio, a single-disc CD player, Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ for smartphone integration, SiriusXM® satellite radio and Travel Link subscriptions, and STARLINK™ multimedia integration.

At the Premium trim level, the Legacy is enhanced with dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal transceiver for remote-controlling home features like garage doors and security systems, six speakers (instead of four), HD Radio® technology, and an 8-inch LCD multi-touch-gesture screen in place of the 6.5-inch. The Sport and Limited are boosted with keyless entry, push-button engine start, and a 12-speaker 576-watt Harman Kardon audio system.

Which Legacy Powertrain has the Highest Horsepower?

The standard engine on the 2019 Subaru Legacy is a 2.5-liter flat-4-cylinder (H4) engine with 175 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. Only the top-level Limited provides the option of swapping the H4 with a 3.6-liter H6 with 256 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are linked to a continuously variable transmission. Similar to other Subaru vehicles, the Legacy has standard all-wheel drive for optimizing all-weather driving performance.

In addition to the aforementioned EyeSight®, standard safety features on the 2019 Subaru Legacy include vehicle dynamics control, traction control, active torque vectoring, LED daytime running lights, an anti-lock braking system on the four-wheel disc brakes, brake assist and override, a theft-deterrent system that combines keyless access and engine immobilization, and six airbags (dual front impact airbags, dual front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and dual side curtain airbags). On the Sport and Limited, Subaru adds blind spot detection with lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.
