One key to making any family road trip great is having the financial freedom to act spontaneously. If you're thinking about a road trip, start saving now! Money on the road isn't everything, but it can certainly mean the difference between eating fast food or enjoying exciting, unique cuisines from restaurants that catch your eye along the way.
Pick out a location that the entire family will love and map out your trip ahead of time. This is a family affair, so everyone needs to have fun - that includes Mom and Dad! Take a GPS and print out your route before hand to avoid any unexpected detours.
Make a pre-trip checklist of all the items your family will need, make hotel reservations ahead of time and have your vehicle checked by Van Subaru's Service Department before you leave. Nothing can put a damper on your trip like forgetting your credit card, sleeping in the car or breaking down on the road.
Make a list of games (and bring along toys) for your children. Games are a great way to keep your kids busy, especially if you want to avoid having to hear the dreaded, "Are we there yet?" Even games as simple as I Spy, Hangman or 20 Questions can fill up hours of time.
Finally, (and most importantly) have fun! Leave your work and worries behind and simply enjoy the ride!
