A large number of Americans, over 50 percent, are proud pet parents and a significant number, roughly one in five, have admitted to driving with a pet on their lap. Ensuring the safety of pets is of importance to Subaru, who’s financially supported the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) through their Share the Love campaign. Subaru is once again promoting the safety of animals by funding the Center for Pet Safety’s new pet crate and carrier crash tests, which will have results in coming months regarding crate size recommendations, pet traveling best practices and performance standards for pet safety products.
CPS is calling on the help of MGA Research Corporation, a lab contracted by the NHTSA, to assist with its pet safety crash tests using lifelike crash test dogs of varying sizes. CPS has worked with the company in the past, when it conducted tests with pet travel harnesses and identified several failures and performance issues among different brands. The new study, which now focuses on pet crates and carriers, is something we will follow up on in our blog when the results are released later this summer.
