Keeping your vehicle’s paint in shape is a sure way to retain a higher resale and trade-in value, plus it will keep your car looking great for as long as you own it. Read on to browse our quick-step guide to protecting car paint.
- Quickly wash off common elements that are known to damage paint, such as: bird droppings, sprinkler water, coffee, soda and bugs.
- When washing always keep two buckets handy. You need one for soapy water and another for rinsing. The rinse bucket should always be used before dipping back into the soapy water, which helps rid cleaning mitts of abrasive debris that can scratch the vehicle exterior’s clear coat.
- Choose anti-scratch microfiber cloth for cleaning and drying your car. Cheap products can be harsh on the surface and don’t last very long anyhow.
- Never use dish liquid when washing your car. Its degreasing properties will eventually ruin your car’s clear coat. Choose a car washing liquid instead.
- Wax your car at least twice a year. This’ll not only keep it looking shiny, but also protect the clear coat that shields your car’s paint.
- If you can help it, don’t let your friends write humorous messages on your dirty car with their fingers. Rubbing in dirt has an abrasive effect on the clear coat.
