Subaru has successfully built 3 million models in the U.S. as of July 28, 2016. The huge accomplishment was achieved at the company’s facility in Lafayette, Indiana and announced to the public on August 1. The 3 millionth Subaru to roll off the plant’s assembly line was none other than an Outback draped in Lapis Blue Pearl paint.
The North American market has been kind to Subaru over the years and this recent milestone proves it. When the brand first began developing cars at its Lafayette plant in 1989, they initially shared the facility with Isuzu before eventually taking complete ownership over it. The popular Legacy was the first model to come out of the factory, but it didn’t take long for Subaru to begin producing Bajas, Tribecas and Outbacks at the facility as well.
By the end of 2016, Subaru will also start developing Impreza models at the Lafayette plant, and in 2018, a three-row crossover will take its place on the assembly line. The addition of these vehicles is a part of Subaru’s plan to increase production at the facility from 218,000 units to 436,000 units by March 2019.
