Subaru has officially broken their past record on the Isle of Man TT Road Course using the WRX STI Time Attack. Professional driver Mark Higgins, who set the previous record of 116.47 mph at a time of 19.26, was able to clock in a new time of 17.35 at an average speed of 128.73 mph.
The Isle of Man TT Road Course can be a bit of a challenge for many drivers, but with the WRX STI Time Attack car (built specifically for the course) Higgins had an advantage. He was able to navigate the course with much more ease due to a more than a few tweaks to the car, but he admits he could have had a better run if it weren't for the day's hot weather conditions which caused the tarmac to become soft.
"With lower temperatures we would be making more horsepower, so I still believe we have more left in terms of speed, but it is great to have another record in the bank," said Mark Higgins. "The chassis on this new car is fantastic to drive. It makes a difference driving a car custom designed for this course. It really allowed me to pick up time in each sector in the more technical parts of the course."
A partnership between Subaru Technica International and Prodrive is what led to the creation of the WRX STI Time Attack car. The two companies were able to improve upon the car's strong points and add other features, which helped Higgins nab the new record.
