Subaru has finally taken the sheet off the 2017 Impreza, which is the first model in the brand’s lineup to be based off the new Subaru Global Platform. Featuring a more sculptural body, prominent wheel arches, dramatic headlights and Subaru’s signature hexagonal grille, the car delivers a more appealing aesthetic that can be attributed to its new underpinnings.
For 2017, the Subaru Impreza in once again offered in Premium, Sport and Limited trims. Those who choose to purchase the Sport model will see the addition of 18-inch wheels, active torque vectoring and a unique suspension line, while Limited owners will get an 8-inch touchscreen, power driver’s seat, leather seating, 17-inch wheels, push-button start and Subaru EyeSight, to name a few. Powering all three of the models will be a brand-new 2.0L four-cylinder Boxer engine, generating 152 horsepower – a 4-horsepower increase compared to last year’s model. Highline trims will get a CVT paired with the engine and a seven-speed maul mode function that supports the Impreza’s power offerings.
With its new platform, the Impreza boasts a 70-percent increase in body rigidity that was made possible by its new frameworks and highly stiffen joints that improve straight-line stability and agility. Additionally, the car features a double-wishbone independent rear suspension with its rear stabilizer bar mounted to the body, which reduces body roll by 50 percent.
