What's New for the 2018 Subaru Legacy?

The 2018 Subaru Legacy is Subaru's reliable midsize sedan and a close relative to the Subaru Outback crossover. This is the sixth-edition of the Subaru Legacy, which began production in 1989. The Legacy can seat five people comfortably with extra room for cargo. Cargo space can be increased by using the Legacy's 60/40 rear-folding seats. The new 2018 Legacy features updates to its body styling in addition to improvements in its overall quality. For 2018, the Legacy has received suspension upgrades, noise reduction upgrades, and steering upgrades.

Trim Levels and Key Features

There are five trims and three interior options available for the all-new Legacy. The 2018 Legacy comes standard with a plethora of technology. Standard on the Legacy are Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 6.5-inch infotainment display. A customer can upgrade the display to an 8-inch touchscreen display that also offers navigation from Tom-Tom. Additional standard features on the Legacy include auxiliary inputs, Bluetooth connectivity, and satellite radio.

Legacy customers have the option of interior upgrades such as power and heated front seats, a Harmon Kardon audio system, and increased 18-inch diameter wheels.

Engine Options

2018 Subaru Legacy ExteriorFour of the five trims of the Legacy are powered by a 2.5 liter flat four-cylinder engine. The 2.5 liter engine produces 175 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. The engine is rated to achieve 25 mpg city and 34 mpg highway.

There is also a 3.6 liter flat six-cylinder option that is available on the 3.6R Limited trim. This engine layout is capable of producing 256 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. This layout is rated for 20 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

With both engine options, a continuously variable automatic transmission sends power from the engine to all four wheels. Paddle shifters are available to shift the car in manual mode.

Safety Features That are Hard to Compete With

2018 Subaru Legacy InteriorThe Legacy's all-wheel drive system provides traction for all four wheels in dry or wet conditions. The all-wheel drive system is controlled through torque-vectoring. All Legacy models come standard with a rearview camera. Subaru's EyeSight safety package is offered as an option on all Legacy Premium models and up. This package can include blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure in addition to a variety of other safety features. Legacy owners also have the option of changing the exterior lighting to adaptive LED headlights, which adjust as the steering wheel is turned.

There are no available crash safety test ratings for the 2018 Subaru Legacy yet but the 2017 Subaru Legacy received some of the highest ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
