What's New For the 2020 Subaru Legacy?

The Subaru Legacy has been completely redesigned for 2020. The model now enters its seventh generation, and most of the upgrades are to the interior and powertrain. A new turbocharged, 260-horsepower engine makes its debut, and it's available on the two highest trims. Also new for 2020 is an 11.6-inch tablet-style infotainment interface. The interior dimensions are unchanged, but the design of the front seats has been altered, and there's better outward visibility than ever before.

Which Trims & Features are Available in 2020?

The 2020 Legacy is offered in a total of six trims. The entry-level trim is called the Base, and it boasts a long list of standard convenience features. It comes with air conditioning, full power accessories, and a split-folding rear seatback. The Premium trim rides on larger wheels and adds on dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and the option of the new, larger screen display. The Sport trim comes with some nice exterior styling touches, including black-painted wheels.

The Limited trim has full leather upholstery and LED headlights. The Limited XT and Touring XT come with all of the optional features available on the lower trims and add on some interior styling elements. The Limited XT has several additional high-tech features such as satellite radio as standard equipment, and the Touring XT comes with ventilated front seats and upgraded leather throughout the interior.

A Perfect Blend of Power and Fuel Efficiency

2020 Subaru LegacyThe old boxer-style engine is a thing of the past. A four-cylinder engine still powers the lower trims, but this one is a 2.5L flat-four rated at 182 horsepower. Transmission is continuously variable, and power is sent to all four wheels. The Limited XT and Touring XT get the larger engine, a turbocharged 2.4L that produces a total of 260 horsepower. Note that the V6 option on the past years' top trim is no longer available, but the turbocharged four-cylinder has a higher horsepower output than the outgoing engine.

This engine is also mated to a CVT, and a four-wheel drive is standard. This new turbocharged engine provides much better acceleration than the outgoing V6, something that buyers will be pleased to hear. The ride is smooth and comfortable, and engine noise is minimal even when the vehicle is undergoing rapid acceleration up the freeway ramp. Of course, the all-wheel-drive comes in handy when driving in wet or snowy weather conditions.

Safety Features in the Forefront for 2020

2020 Subaru LegacySubaru's EyeSight system of driver aids remains standard across the trim lineup. This system includes lane centering, lane departure warning, forward collision mitigation, and adaptive cruise control. The latter isn't available on the base trim of most competing models in this vehicle segment.

All Legacy trims come with rear door child safety locks, child seat anchors and tethers in the rear seating area, and a rearview camera. The blind-spot detection is paired to a rear cross-traffic alert. There are no options packages for the safety systems because all of the driver aids are included across the trim lineup.

The 2020 Legacy is a solid choice in the mid-size sedan vehicle class. Test drive it today at Van Subaru.
