Subaru Navigation

You can always rely on your Subaru's navigation system to get you where you need to go, but only if it's up to date. If it's been a while since you've updated your vehicle's navigation maps, you'll be happy to hear that Subaru has made that process fairly simple.

Subaru Navigation

First of all, you need a USB drive with at least 16GB of available space and either a Mac or a PC. If you don't have a spare USB drive, you can purchase one at any store selling electronics or computers. Create an account at subaru-maps.com using a valid email address, and download the Map Downloader app.

When you first start the app, you should notice a "+" button on the bottom-right corner of your screen. Click the button and enter your vehicle's VIN to find information on your car. If you don't know your vehicle's VIN, you can find it near the base of the center pillar when you open the driver's door. Once the Map Downloader app has found your vehicle, click the "Updates" tab to see any available updates. If there are, click "Start" to download any map updates. This will be a large file, so that it could take a while.

Once your updated map is downloaded, insert your USB drive into your computer and click "Start Installation" to upload the data to your drive. After that, it's a matter of installing your updated map data in your vehicle's navigation system.

Before installing your map updates into your Subaru:

  • Make sure that your vehicle is outside in a place where it can idle safely.
  • Start your engine, let it idle for a bit, and press the "I Agree" button on your audio unit.
  • Plug your USB drive into the proper port and follow the onscreen prompts to begin installing your update.

If you need any assistance with this process or have any other questions about your Subaru's navigation system, don't hesitate to contact Van Subaru. We will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
