What's New For the 2019 Subaru BRZ?

Introduced for the 2013 model year, the Subaru BRZ is a two-door rear-wheel-drive sports car that stands out in a lineup dominated by more practical all-wheel-drive vehicles. Apart from over-the-air updates added to the available TomTom navigation system, the 2019 model year remains unchanged from last year.

The 2019 Subaru BRZ is split into Premium and Limited trims. Two rows of seats in the vehicle are large enough to fit up to four occupants. The car provides 76.5 cubic feet of passenger volume and 6.9 cubic feet of cargo volume. Cloth seat trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and front seating that comprises a 6-way manually adjustable driver's seat and 4-way manually adjustable passenger seat are standard. So are comfort and convenience features such as Bluetooth wireless connectivity for hands-free phone operation and audio streaming, LED headlights, heated side mirrors, a keyless entry system, eight-speaker audio, Subaru Starlink multimedia integration, AM/FM radio, a single-disc CD player, HD Radio, a USB port and an auxiliary audio jack for connecting portable media devices, a four-month SiriusXM Radio subscription, and a 6.2-inch LCD touchscreen. At the Limited trim level, Subaru upgrades the BRZ with leather seat trim, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button engine start, a 4.2-inch multi-function display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration, four-month subscriptions to SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link, an additional USB port, the aforementioned TomTom navigation, and a 7-inch LCD touchscreen in place of the 6.2-inch.

Engine and Performance

2019 Subaru BRZ Exterior FrontPowering the 2019 Subaru BRZ is a 2.0-liter flat-four engine that provides 205 horsepower and 156 lb-ft of torque. It is joined to a 6-speed manual transmission, with the option of going with a 6-speed automatic transmission on the Limited. The 6-speed automatic gearbox enables the BRZ's peak fuel economy of 24 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. A Torsen limited-slip rear differential comes with the rear-wheel drivetrain for transmitting more power to the wheel with more traction when it senses a wheel spinning.

2019 Subaru BRZ Exterior RearFor restraint and cushioning in the event of a crash, the 2019 Subaru BRZ provides two front impact airbags, dual front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and a pair of roof-mounted side impact airbags. Also standard on the BRZ are vehicle stability control, traction control, anti-lock braking system, brake assist, brake override, and daytime running lights, and six airbags. Added on the Limited are LED fog lights for more penetrating illumination for driving through the dark, rain, snow, and fog. For security, the Premium trim combines keyless entry with engine immobilization. A panic alarm is added on the Limited to make the theft-deterrent system more robust.
