Auto Motor und Sport, a German automotive magazine, recently examined several vehicle models to see if their pedestrian detection technology worked as promised. Models from various classes were tested in the examination, including the Nissan Qashqai (European variant of the Rogue), Volvo V60, Mini Cooper S, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Subaru Outback.

In a shocking twist, all models failed the test except the Outback. In each case, one car and SUV after another smashed right into the test dummy that was used for the experiment. Outback was the only vehicle model to stop in time and not hit the poor thing. Subaru is known for its safety innovations and this test proves that the automaker really does have an upper hand on much of the competition when it comes to safety - not to mention producing safety technologies that actually work effectively.
The Subaru Outback is offered with EyeSight, which comes with a host of safety functions, including Pre-Collision Braking, a technology that detects both people and objects. It first alerts drivers using visual and audio signals when it senses a person or object in the vehicle’s path, then applies the brakes if the driver does not take action on his or her own.
