2021 Subaru WRX

What's New For the 2021 Subaru WRX?

Initially offered as a wide-body and performance-enhanced version of Subaru's Impreza compact sedan, the WRX was eventually spun off as a standalone model. Now seven model years deep, the Subaru WRX welcomes proximity keyless entry, and push-button engine start as standard features for the 2021 model years.

2021 WRX Trims & Features

The 2021 Subaru WRX is available in base, Premium, Limited, STI, and STI Limited models. Designed as a five-seater with four doors, the WRX shows off its sports leanings with frame-hugging front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red contrast stitching, electroluminescent gauges in the dashboard, and aluminum brake and accelerator pedals. Front-seat heating is added at the Premium level-the Limited and STI Limited gain driver-side adjustability. Notably, the Limited stands out with leather upholstery, and the STI and STI Limited get optimal racing-style treatment on the seats.

The Starlink multimedia system serves entertainment on the WRX. Anchored by a 6.5-inch touchscreen, Starlink integrates a six-speaker AM/FM/CD stereo system with HD Radio, Bluetooth hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, two USB ports, and an auxiliary jack, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration. Subaru replaces the 6.5-inch touchscreen with a larger, 7-inch one on the Premium and higher. The STI gains a dual-zone automatic climate control system. The top-level STI Limited gets a navigation system and nine-speaker Harman Kardon stereo system with 440 watts of aural power.

2021 Subaru WRX Horsepower

The base engine on the 2021 Subaru WRX is a 268-horsepower 2.0-liter flat-four. The performance-optimized STI variants stand out, though, with a larger and more powerful 310-horsepower 2.5-liter flat-four. Unlike most other compact sedans, the WRX-along with its cousin, the Impreza-has a standard all-wheel-drive system to handle surfaces compromised by rain, snow, and ice with greater ease.

Subaru WRX Safety

Driver assistance on the base model of the WRX is provided by a rearview camera, with seven airbags on board if there's a crash. You will have to go with the Limited or higher if you want the Starlink Safety and Security suite, which supplies functions such as automatic collision notification, roadside and SOS emergency assistance, and a stolen vehicle locator. Driver assistance peaks at the STI Limited level, which gets blind-spot detection, lane change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert.
